📖 How to Play

Start here. The essentials are up top. Open a section below when you want detail — you don’t need it all on your first run.

🗺 Flip the dungeon

Crypt Sweepers is a roguelike tile-flipper: each floor is a hidden grid. You start on one revealed tile and expand by flipping orthogonally adjacent hidden tiles (north, south, east, west — not diagonals). Only tiles marked as reachable can be flipped.

Threat clues — small numbers on revealed tiles (where enabled) sum the threat level of living enemies and certain hazards in the four orthogonal directions, similar to Minesweeper. Use them to guess where danger is clustered before you commit.

Death ends the run, but meta progress and knowledge carry over. Expect to die often — the goal is to go a little deeper each time.

Tap a revealed enemy to fight. Combat is a trade of blows — you strike, then they strike. Read ❤️ HP and ⚔️ damage before you commit.

💡 Kill in one hit when you can — the enemy doesn’t get a counter. Fast enemies ambush on reveal and strike first.

War flag — a tile may spawn that buffs every living enemy’s HP and damage until you destroy it. Often worth bee-lining before the floor snowballs.

Goblin Archer — appears early and sometimes on later floors. It starts revealed and pesters you each turn until dealt with — close in, or snipe with spells/actives.

🕳 Sub-floors & terrain

Sub-floors — special entrances lead to a floor inside the floor (boss vaults, dens, treasure rooms, shrines, tunnels, and more), each with its own small grid.

Holes & rubble — open pits are always visible and impassable; rubble blocks paths until revealed. Path around them.

🎒 Backpack & item rarity

The backpack holds up to 9 items. When full, new finds ask you to swap or drop something.

⬜ Common — potions, tools, consumables

🔷 Rare — strong passive trinkets

🟡 Legendary — run-defining relics

Read trinket text — many trigger on equip or in specific situations.

🏠 Between runs (meta)

Heroes — unlock heroes; each has unique tools and Hero Passives (see hero carousel).

Class XP tree — spend XP on that hero’s upgrades (including active abilities as you unlock tiers).

Passive Upgrades — account-wide bonuses (HP, damage, economy) bought with persistent gold — not the same as per-hero passives.

🛒

Gold Shop — spend run gold on consumables and unlocks for the next run.

💡 Quick tips

📊 Use threat numbers before you flip into a cluster of foes.

🚩 Don’t ignore a war flag for too long if enemies are getting scary.

🏹 Prioritize a Goblin Archer if it’s shredding you from range.

🔑 Golden keys — full floor clears can earn keys for magic chests in sanctuaries.

🪙 Retreat — better to escape with partial gold than die with everything (see in-game rules).
